Children are able to concentrate and learn better when they have eaten a healthy, balanced lunch. School meals can be the simple solution. Please see the current menu in place from September 2026 - School Menu
If you would prefer to send your child with a packed lunch then our school guidance is here - Packed Lunch
From September 2026, eligibility will be expanded so that all households receiving Universal Credit will qualify for Free School Meals. This removes the current £7,400 income cap and is expected to benefit over half a million additional pupils nationwide.
How will this help families and schools?
Eligible families could save up to £495 per year per child on school lunches. For families with multiple children, this could make a considerable difference to household budgets.
Applying for Free School Meals could also benefit the school. For some registered children, the school receives additional pupil premium funding to provide support such as after school activities, wellbeing and pastoral care.
Even if your child prefers to bring a packed lunch, registering is still extremely important as it ensures the school receives this additional funding.
How to apply
If you think you may be eligible and either parent/carer is in receipt of Universal Credit, please contact the school office on 0113 512 8746 or admin@cockburnhaighroad.org
