Our vision is to give our children, who are at the very beginning of their school life, a rounded and outstanding education. Moving on from child-led play in Nursery, children have a balance of adult led and experience led learning activities. They learn through a combination of play and more formal, taught lessons in both the indoor and outdoor classroom spaces. Our wonderful outdoor provision is open and inviting and the adults set this up to tempt children into engaging wholeheartedly in large construction, large physical movement and unique learning opportunities.
We use the Tapestry App and look forward to developing both assessment and communication between school and home.
Through parent workshops and through our YouTube Channel 'Cockburn Haigh Road Academy', we will share how we teach children phonics, reading, writing and maths as well as some other activities that you may enjoy doing at home.

Miss Carr (class teacher), Miss Buckley (Level 3 teaching assistant) and Miss Callaghan (Level 3 teaching assistant)
All three of our Key Stage One classes are mixed age, with Years One and Two learning alongside each other. This facilitates a great deal of collaborative learning and gives teaching staff the opportunity to work flexibly across the phase, to the benefit of individuals and the cohort as a whole.
With a curriculum that evolves to suit the needs of the children, we use Talk for Writing to drive progress and attainment in speaking and listening, reading and writing. The staff work hard to plan learning that threads through the wider curriculum areas, and we share our learning through the Tapestry app as well as through newsletters and showcase events in school.
Our outdoor learning area provides children with the opportunity to explore learning outside of the classroom environment and staff plan outdoor learning on a daily basis.
